Track 2 Policy – Renewable Energy Scenarios

A panel of five experts (Hans Jorgen Koch, Danish Energy Agency, Julien Pestiaux, European Climate Foundation, Paolo Frankl, IEA, Sven Teske, Greenpeace, Dr. Kirit Parikh, Planning Commission, India, Dr. Karsten Sach, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Germany) led by Dr. Eric Martinot, (Institute for Sustainable Energy politics) discussed the future development and scenarios for RES from a global perspective. While the experts more or less agreed on the feasibility of rather high shares (up to 80%)  in the electricity market by 2050, they remained divided on the issues of CCS and nuclear. Sven Teske considers CCS obsolete; other panelists considered also the use in combination with biomass.
