The World Future Energy Summit (WFES) is one of the world’s foremost events dedicated to renewable energies, energy efficiency and clean technologies. This yearly event includes a large-scale Conference, an international Exhibition, the Project & Finance Village, the Young Future Energy Leaders program, Zayed Future Energy Prize as well as a number of corporate meetings and concurrent social events. The event is hosted by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s multi-faceted renewable energy company, and staged at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
Building on the high profile successes of WFES 2013, the 7th annual gathering of future energy’s world leaders will be home to brilliant minds and inspiring thinkers for three days of expert debate and world class innovation in the heart of Abu Dhabi.
This year, the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership REEEP is again present to connect with other players in the field as well as to showcase our impressive portfolio of supported clean energy projects and our work in knowledge management and open data. REEEP/REIL will host a plenary session on day 3 (22 Jan, in the morning) again – James Cameron will moderate and REEEP’s Director General Martin Hiller will speak. In addition to this, there will be a data-related session with IT and Operations Director Florian Bauer. Continue reading “REEEP attends the 7th World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi”

The REEEP-funded TransJakarta project for low carbon public transport in Jakarta is stepping up its game. The project, part of REEEP’s 8th programme call, just celebrated a successful milestone with the opening of another bus lane.
The implementing agency for this project is the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), a social for-profit organization that promotes sustainable transportation worldwide, and has broad experience in sustainable urban public transport.
Just in case you are not familiar with the BRT transport system used in this project, let me explain quickly. Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a bus system operating on separate bus-only lanes, has its own stations throughout the city and follows a fixed route that has similarities to a metro plan in large cities. Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership: REEEP’s brand-new Annual Report gives a concise overview of the Partnership’s achievements during the period from1 April 2012 to 31 March 2013. This was a year of transformation, in which a new positioning was adopted, and in which personnel, systems and activities were aligned to deliver on the new strategy.
REEEP has concentrated on three types of services over the last year:
I just got back from another intensive workshop – or rather two to be precise.
Last Friday REEEP and OpenEI held a joint workshop on Linked Open Data and how it could be a useful technology to accelerate climate change adaptation and mitigation. REEEP‘s IT Director Florian Bauer and Jon Weers of OpenEI presented the status quo of data silos and explained how LOD can help us overcome these and reduce duplication and errors. Again, some of the most fundamental issues that came up in discussions were quality of data, demand and reuse as well technical implications.
Saturday and Sunday were packed with presentations and sessions of the Climate Knowledge Brokers (CKB) Workshop, this year co-organized by Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and REEEP. Since this yearly get-together of the people behind many of the world’s best platforms on climate related subjects is a unique opportunity of peer discussion, participants were highly engaged and outspoken about challenges, success and ambition.
